A Guide to Cornwall Watersports

One of Cornwall’s most obvious assets is the stunning coastline. Many people come to Cornwall for its water action ranging from Surfing to Scuba Diving. It gets super chilly in the winter months but that doesn’t deter the die-hard surfing enthusiasts and as long as the waves are looking good, you’ll see people surfing in all weather and all temperatures! Here’s our top list of water activities to take part in.

Surfing

It goes without saying that surfing is what has made Newquay famous over the years. Every beach has wetsuit and board hire and surf lessons are easy to find throughout the town. One of the most famous surfing beaches is Fistral Beach, which is home to many surf competitions and events throughout the summer. Fistral has many facilities including several places to eat, multiple surf schools and a lifeguard station overlooking the beach.

Scuba Diving

No need to travel to faraway tropical islands when you can explore the deepest depths of the ocean right here in Newquay. Whether you are an experienced diver or a complete newbie, you can find what you need with Dive Newquay. Cornwall is famous for it’s shipwrecks and as a result offers some extremely interesting diving experiences.

Coasteering

Coasteering is an exhilarating experience full of twists and turns. Once minute you may be traversing the side of a cliff, the next minute jumping off the same cliff into the sea to cross a water filled cavern. Coasteering routes take you through all kinds of different terrain, coming across hidden gems that you normally would not be able to access by foot or even by boat. This is definitely one of the coolest ways to cover the stunning Cornish coastline.

Jet Ski Safari

Glide over the waves on a jet ski and get an amazing view of the famous Cornish coastline from the perspective of the ocean. Some people have been fortunate to encounter wildlife such as seals and dolphins during their safari. Visit Cornwall Waverunner Safaris for more information and to book a jet ski safari. There are routes planned out to suit all tastes and they cater for all experience levels from beginner to advanced.

Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)

This is another amazing way to explore the Cornwall coast. These boards are large, sturdy and stable, allowing you to paddle your way around the coastline, exploring all the nooks and crannies. Make sure you go out with someone who is experienced and knowledgeable about the Cornish coast as there are various rips and tidal issues to be aware of.
