Description
Trevose Head Lighthouse, perched on a rugged clifftop near Padstow on Cornwall’s north coast, has guided ships since 1847 and fills a vital navigational gap between Land’s End and Lundy. The 27-metre white masonry tower, with a light 62 metres above sea level, emits a powerful white flash every 7.5 seconds, visible for up to 18 nautical miles. Originally built with twin lights—one later discontinued in 1882—the lighthouse also featured a renowned foghorn added in 1913, which operated until 2012. Fully automated in 1995 and now remotely monitored by Trinity House, the lighthouse was fitted with a modern LED lantern in 2023. As a Grade II-listed structure with former keeper’s cottages now available as holiday rentals, Trevose Head Lighthouse continues to serve as a dramatic and functional maritime landmark while offering visitors a unique stay with sweeping ocean views.
