Porthpean House

Porthpean House is a 19th-century, Grade II listed country house sleeping up to 21 across 12 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. It sits 50 yards above the sandy, sheltered beach at Porthpean on the south Cornwall coast, with private access down to the sand. Sea views run through many of the main rooms, and the house retains the period proportions and finishes expected of a listed property of this age and size.

Inside, the traditionally furnished interior is arranged around formal drawing rooms, a snug, a large dining area and the bedroom wings upstairs. The spread of 12 bedrooms across 8 bathrooms works for multi-family groups, milestone celebrations or corporate gatherings where shared space and separate sleeping areas are both needed. Wi-Fi, dishwasher, washing machine and open fires are all included.

The house featured in the 2013 Richard Curtis film About Time, which gives guests an unusual recognisable point of reference for the interiors. Private parking sits on site, and the gardens run down toward the coast path.

Porthpean itself is a small beach hamlet within the St Austell parish. Charlestown - the 18th-century harbour used as a filming location in many period dramas - lies a mile away along the coast path, or 1.5 miles by road. St Austell sits two miles inland, with the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan both reachable within a 15-minute drive.
