Bridgerule

Bridgerule is a village on the Cornwall-Devon border, about 5 miles south-east of Bude and 5 miles west of Holsworthy in Devon. The name refers to a bridge over the small river (a tributary of the Tamar) at the county boundary. The parish church of St Bridget has medieval origins. The village sits in rolling farmland on both sides of the county line and is predominantly agricultural in character.

Bude, with its beaches and town amenities, is the closest resort area - about 5 miles north-west. The Bude Canal, one of the last remaining tub-boat canals in England, terminates at Bude and was historically used to transport sand inland as agricultural fertiliser. Holsworthy in Devon is the nearest town to the east. Launceston is about 12 miles south.

This part of the Cornwall-Devon border is among the least visited areas in either county. Holiday accommodation in Bridgerule is in farm cottages and rural properties - primarily used by those who want access to Bude’s beaches at lower accommodation costs, or who want a genuinely quiet agricultural setting.
