Maenporth
Sheltered sandy beach south of Falmouth
Maenporth is a south-facing sandy beach about 2 miles southwest of Falmouth, sheltered by headlands on either side. The beach has clean sand, calm water suitable for swimming, and a gentle slope that makes it popular with families. Maenporth Beach Cafe sits above the sand and serves food through the day. A kayak and paddleboard hire operates from the beach in season.
The settlement around the beach is small - a handful of houses, a car park, and the cafe. The coast path connects Maenporth to Swanpool Beach (about a mile northeast towards Falmouth) and to Mawnan Smith and Helford Passage to the south. The walk south passes through woodland above the cliffs and reaches Trebah Garden’s beach within about 40 minutes. Falmouth’s town centre, castle, and maritime museum are about 15 minutes by car or bus.
Maenporth fills a useful niche for visitors who want a quiet beach with Falmouth’s amenities within easy reach. The south-facing aspect means it catches afternoon sun, and the shelter makes it one of the warmer swimming spots on this stretch of coast. The water quality is consistently good. Holiday properties nearby are a mix of bungalows, apartments, and houses, many with sea views over the bay.
