St Ives consistently ranks among the UK’s most beautiful seaside towns. Its combination of golden beaches, clear waters, a thriving art scene, and narrow cobbled streets makes it one of Cornwall’s most sought-after destinations - and its hotels reflect that quality.
What to know before booking
St Ives is compact and can get very busy in peak season. Parking in the town centre is limited and expensive. Several of the hotels listed here offer free parking, which is a genuine advantage. Alternatively, the branch-line train from St Erth drops you right at the harbour - one of the most scenic rail journeys in England.
The beaches
St Ives has four main beaches, each with its own character:
- Porthmeor - north-facing, popular with surfers, backed by Tate St Ives
- Porthminster - south-facing, sheltered, calm waters, excellent beach café
- Porthgwidden - tiny, tucked-away cove, quieter than the main beaches
- Harbour Beach - right in the centre of town, scenic but gets crowded
Beyond the beach
The Tate St Ives gallery, the Barbara Hepworth Museum, and the town’s independent shops and restaurants give St Ives depth beyond its beaches. The coastal path to Zennor is one of the finest walks in Cornwall.
