Cardinham
Bodmin Moor parish with Cardinham Woods mountain bike trails
Cardinham is a parish east of Bodmin, about 4 miles from the town centre, covering farmland and the substantial Cardinham Woods. The woods are managed by Forestry England and cover around 650 hectares of mixed conifer and broadleaf woodland. They are a popular outdoor recreation site with waymarked walking trails, mountain bike routes of varying difficulty, and a cafe at the woodland centre. The trails here are among the better-developed off-road cycling options in east Cornwall.
The parish church of St Meubred is a medieval building with a Celtic cross in the churchyard. The village of Cardinham itself is small, with the church and a cluster of farms and cottages. Bodmin Moor is accessible from the north of the parish, with the moorland rising from the edge of the farmland. Bodmin town, with its full range of services, is about 4 miles west.
Lanhydrock, the National Trust’s Victorian country house estate with gardens and one of the most visited houses in Cornwall, is about 3 miles west on the south side of Bodmin. Lostwithiel is about 6 miles south. Holiday accommodation in Cardinham parish tends to be in converted farm buildings, often used as a base by families planning a mix of coastal visits and active outdoor days in the woods.
