Quintrell Downs

Quintrell Downs is a village in Central Cornwall at the junction of the A392 and A3058 roads, close to Newquay. The village has its own railway station on the Atlantic Coast Line, giving direct rail access to the coast and connections to the main line at Par.

The name Quintrell comes from a French word meaning fop or dandy and dates back about 600 years. Three farms - Trethiggey, Trewollack and Bejowan - surround the village and can each be traced back at least 200 years. The settlement grew significantly in the 1930s as housing spread along the roads towards Newquay and eastwards from the chapel.

Newquay Zoo is about two miles to the north-west. The village sits well placed for reaching Newquay’s beaches without the higher accommodation costs of the town itself - Fistral, Towan and Lusty Glaze are all within a short drive. The Quintrell Inn provides a local pub option.

For visitors who want easy access to Newquay’s surf beaches, restaurants and nightlife but prefer to stay somewhere quieter, Quintrell Downs offers a practical base with good road and rail connections. The Atlantic Coast Line train from Quintrell Downs to Par takes roughly 40 minutes and connects to the main London Paddington service. Dairyland Farm World, about 4 miles south near Summercourt, has milking demonstrations and an indoor play barn for rainy days.
