St Cleer
Bodmin Moor village with a Neolithic quoit
St Cleer is a village on the south-east edge of Bodmin Moor, about 3 miles north of Liskeard. The village is surrounded by prehistoric and historic sites. Trevethy Quoit, a Neolithic dolmen dating to roughly 3500 BC, stands about a mile north-east - one of the largest and most impressive portal dolmens in Cornwall. The St Cleer Holy Well, a 15th-century well house, is in the village.
The open moorland of Bodmin Moor begins at the edge of the village, with walking routes to the Cheesewring, a natural granite formation on Stowe’s Hill about 2 miles north. The Minions heritage area, Cornwall’s highest village, is nearby. Liskeard provides shops and a mainline railway station.
