Sennen Cove

Cornwall's most westerly surf beach near Land's End

Sennen Cove is the most westerly beach settlement in Cornwall, sitting just over a mile north of Land’s End. Whitesand Bay stretches for nearly a mile of open sand facing the Atlantic, producing reliable surf that works on most swell directions. The RNLI operates a lifeboat station here and provides lifeguard cover through the summer season. A surf school runs lessons from the beach, and boards and wetsuits are available for hire.

The harbour at the south end of the beach dates back centuries and still shelters a small fleet of working boats. The Round House and Capstan Gallery, a converted capstan house on the slipway, shows work by local artists. The Old Success Inn overlooks the beach and serves food, while the Beach Restaurant and a seasonal cafe at the top of the beach car park provide further options. The village has a small shop selling essentials.

Land’s End itself is a 20-minute walk along the coast path. The wider Penwith area offers some of Cornwall’s most dramatic coastal scenery - the Minack Theatre is 6 miles east, and St Just, the nearest town with a supermarket, is 3 miles north. Parking at Sennen Cove fills quickly in summer; an overflow car park at the top of the hill helps absorb peak demand.
