Stibb

Quiet hamlet close to Bude

Stibb is a hamlet roughly 2 miles south of Bude, sitting within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The settlement is small - a cluster of farms and cottages along narrow lanes - but its position gives quick access to Bude’s beaches, shops, and restaurants without the summer parking difficulties of the town itself. The coast at Widemouth Bay is about 2 miles to the southwest, with its broad sandy beach and consistent surf.

The Bude Canal, which runs south from the sea lock at Bude for several miles, passes close to Stibb and provides a flat, sheltered walking and cycling route. The canal was built in the 1820s to carry lime-rich sand inland to fertilise the acidic soils of north Cornwall. Today it’s a peaceful corridor of still water, popular with birdwatchers. The coast path is accessible from Bude in either direction - north toward Sandymouth and Morwenstow, or south past Widemouth toward Crackington Haven.

Properties in Stibb are typically converted barns and farmhouse annexes, often with more space and lower rates than equivalent accommodation in Bude itself. The hamlet sits on higher ground with views toward the coast, and the lack of through-traffic makes it particularly quiet. Bude has two supermarkets, a range of cafes and restaurants, and a sea pool on Summerleaze Beach that’s free to use year-round.
