Trelissick Garden

Trelissick sits on its own peninsula about 4 miles south of Truro, overlooking the Fal estuary and the Roseland beyond. The 30-acre garden is only part of the story - the wider estate covers 300 acres of woodland, riverside paths, and coastline, all open to explore.

The garden is known for its collection of exotic and tender plants, made possible by the mild microclimate of the Fal. Azaleas, hydrangeas, camellias, and rhododendrons provide colour across the seasons, alongside less common species including ginkgo trees, Japanese cryptomeria, and several varieties of palms. Trelissick holds the National Plant Collection of azaras and photinias. Meandering paths lead through herbaceous borders to four summerhouses and a Water Tower with panoramic views across the estuary to the Roseland.

Beyond the formal garden, woodland trails run down to the river, passing through twisting oak canopy to Roundwood Quay - the site of an Iron Age fort and an 18th-century trading quay. The estate is dog-friendly throughout. Crofters cafe serves seasonal lunches and cream teas using local produce, and there is a National Trust shop, plant sales area, and second-hand bookshop. The King Harry Ferry, which crosses the Fal to the Roseland, operates from a slipway just below the garden.
