Crotchet Cottage

Located in the heart of Cornwall’s Roseland, Crotchet Cottage is a charming double-fronted retreat set at the end of an attractive row of mixed thatched and slate-roofed dwellings, adjacent to a working farm. Its setting offers a sense of timeless rural character peaceful, welcoming, and surrounded by the natural beauty that defines this special corner of Cornwall. Crotchet Cottage sits in the pretty rural hamlet of Bohortha, just a few minutes’ walk from the dog-friendly sandy beach at Porthbeor, almost at the tip of St Anthony’s Head. Currently, Porthbeor beach is not accessible due to landslides rendering the cliffs unstable; however, Towan beach a relatively secluded shingle and sand beach is only a short drive away or, better still, reached via a beautiful walk across the cliffs. Owned by the National Trust, this dog-friendly beach offers a car park and easy access along a sloping path. Just remember to bring your National Trust membership cards with you to park free of charge. The nearby village of Gerrans, just a couple of miles away, features a welcoming pub and is perhaps best known for its ancient church, St Gerrans. The local area around Crotchet Cottage is rich with beautiful coastal and rural walks, and the pretty coastal fishing village of Portscatho lies just 3 miles away. Here you’ll find a selection of pubs, cafés and shops (some seasonal) to cater for your holiday needs, along with a beach of rock and sand. The cliff-top walk to Portscatho is a wonderful way to build an appetite, and the Plume of Feathers pub is a firm favourite with walkers. A little further beyond sits the famous Hidden Hut café. St Mawes is just a 7-mile drive from Crotchet Cottage and is well worth a visit. From there, you can catch the foot ferry across to Falmouth a scenic crossing that operates year-round with frequent sailings between the two destinations.
