Hideaway

Hideaway is a one-bedroom waterside retreat for two beside the Fowey estuary, a short walk from the water for a morning swim. It sits within the town itself and scores 10 from 13 reviews, making it one of the higher-rated cottages in the Toad Hall collection.

The interior runs to a single bedroom, a bathroom, an open kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine, and a living space with WiFi. The cottage has low beams and steps, which the owners note may not suit particularly tall guests or those with mobility issues. Changeover is on Saturdays, with prices from 565 GBP per week rising to 1,275 GBP at peak.

Outside there is a small garden and direct access to the riverside. Fowey itself has historic pubs, restaurants, independent shops, and several boat and kayak hire operators on the water. The view across the estuary takes in Bodinnick on the east bank, where Daphne du Maurier's family home Ferryside still stands.

Fowey is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has a long literary history - the estuary is reputed to have inspired parts of Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows, and Fowey Hall is said to have been the model for Toad Hall. Walks around the estuary lead to a string of small coves for swimming.
