Mitchell
Mid-Cornwall A30 village between Truro and Newquay
Mitchell is a village on the A30 in mid-Cornwall, about 7 miles east of Newquay and 10 miles north of Truro. It is perhaps best known as the location of the A30 services with a Travelodge and various food outlets at the junction. The Plume of Feathers, a traditional pub, is one of the oldest buildings in the village. The settlement sits at the crossing of the A30 and the B3284.
The village’s position on the A30 makes it one of the more accessible inland locations in Cornwall. Newquay Airport is about 7 miles west, and the north coast beaches at Perranporth are about 5 miles north-west. The Indian Queens business park and Summercourt are each within 3 miles. Truro with its cathedral and main shopping is about 10 miles south.
Mitchell is a functional stopping point rather than a traditional destination, but the surrounding farmland is typical mid-Cornwall countryside with some footpath walking available. Holiday accommodation in the Mitchell area is limited and mainly in farm conversions, primarily chosen by visitors who want a central Cornwall base at a reasonable price.
