St Blazey
Gateway town for the Eden Project near Par and Fowey
St Blazey is a small town in south Cornwall, sitting between Par on the coast and the Eden Project inland, about 4 miles west of Fowey. The town grew around the railway and the local mining and china clay industries. Par station, on the main Penzance to Plymouth line, is about a mile south and serves the whole St Blazey and Par area. The Eden Project is approximately 1 mile north of St Blazey by road - the closest settlement to the attraction.
The town has a range of local shops, a post office, and several pubs. It is more of a working community than a visitor centre, which keeps accommodation prices lower than in Fowey or the coastal villages to the south. Par Sands, a long sandy beach, is about 2 miles south. Charlestown, with its historic shipwreck and tall-ships harbour, is about 2 miles west.
Lostwithiel, the ancient capital of Cornwall with a Norman castle (Restormel), is about 4 miles north-west. Holiday properties in the St Blazey area give practical access to the Eden Project, Fowey, and the south Cornwall coast without the road congestion that builds up in Fowey itself during summer.
