The Faraway Tree

A unique escape set high above the ground with a tree growing through its heart, this extraordinary treehouse is the ideal holiday haven for a couple seeking a romantic retreat. It’s located on a boutique glamping site just 1.5 miles from Bude, a paradise for beach lovers, surfers and walkers. Spend the day on huge, golden beaches, riding the waves, swimming or sunbathing, or explore the variety of walking trails that lead around the coast and through the countryside. In town, there’s also an interesting choice of shops, galleries, pubs and places to eat. Further afield, you’ll find an enormous variety of things to do, from horse riding to golf, with numerous attractions within easy reach. Head to Tintagel, for example, and experience the magic of the legendary castle, or stroll through the scenic village of Clovelly, with its traffic-free streets and historic harbour, both within 18 miles.

The treehouse is accessed via a steep stairway that takes you 6 metres up to your one-of-a-kind hideaway. The floor area is much larger than you would imagine, covering almost 20 square metres, and is shaded on the south side, with a clear roof on the north side: perfect for sitting back and watching the night sky. LED lighting adds to the out-of-this-world atmosphere. You’ll have bean bags for relaxing and a compact kitchen area with a kettle, combination microwave and electric cool box – just enough to whip up a morning coffee or a quick snack. When you’re ready to turn in, there’s a double bed in which to drift off to sleep. A Dyson heating fan ensures you won’t feel the cold, and you’ll have both plug sockets and Wi-Fi for convenience. Head back down to the ground to find the treehouse’s WC, and a ‘secret’ open-air, hot-water shower room which is screened by hedging.

Fold back the glazed doors, and you can connect the living space directly to the balcony, an incredible outdoor area with far-reaching views that’s furnished for drinks or dining in the fresh air. The treehouse also benefits from a private, ground-level patio equipped with a BBQ and seating, ready for you to grill delicious treats from ingredients picked up from local farm shops. Private parking for one car is available, just below the treehouse.
