Praze An Beeble

Praze-an-Beeble is a village in the civil parish of Crowan in West Cornwall, situated at a crossroads between Camborne (about two and a half miles north) and Helston (about seven miles south). The name translates from Cornish as “meadow on the River Beeble,” though the watercourse running through the village is actually known as the Praze Stream.

The settlement developed as a planned estate village for the Clowance estate, supplying services and housing for the local mining industry and agricultural workers. Its main period of growth was between 1809 and 1840. Praze-an-Beeble is the largest village in Crowan parish and has a post office, a pub and a garage.

Every July the village hosts Praze Fair, which features a parade of local residents, pupils from Crowan School and a marching band, preceded by a week-long visit from a touring funfair. The event draws visitors from across the surrounding area.

The former mining landscapes around Camborne and Redruth, now part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, are close to the north. The south coast at Porthleven and Praa Sands is within about 15 minutes by car. Praze-an-Beeble suits visitors looking for an affordable West Cornwall base with easy access to both coasts.
