St Martin

Quiet Roseland parish above the Percuil River creeks

St Martin is a small parish on the Roseland, the peninsula between Falmouth and Truro that lies east of the Fal estuary. The parish covers farmland between St Mawes and Portscatho, with the Percuil River - a tidal creek running inland from St Mawes - forming the western boundary. The church of St Martin is a small Norman foundation with medieval additions. The village is about 10 miles from Truro by road, though the narrow Roseland lanes make journeys feel longer.

The Percuil River and its smaller creeks offer kayaking and sailing at high tide, with St Mawes about 2 miles south. St Mawes has shops, pubs, restaurants, and a ferry service across to Falmouth - making it the practical hub for the area. The coast path runs along the eastern edge of the Roseland through Portscatho and Portloe, both accessible within a few miles.

Walking in the parish is on quiet lanes and footpaths through farmland, with creek and estuary views a recurring feature. Holiday accommodation here tends to be in converted farm buildings and rural cottages, popular with visitors who want the Roseland’s well-regarded scenery without paying the premium prices of St Mawes itself.
