Captains Quarters

Captains Quarters is a two-bedroom dog-friendly cottage on Foundry Drive in Charlestown, the Georgian harbour village built in the 1790s for china clay export. The cottage has a garden, terrace and outdoor seating - useful for evenings after the harbour crowds thin out. Free Wi-Fi, a washing machine and on-site parking are included.

Inside, a wood burner anchors the living space, with a fully equipped kitchen and dining area. The cottage suits couples or a small family looking for a base close to one of Cornwall's most recognisable harbours - tall ships are moored in the dock year-round, and the port has served as a filming location for Poldark and other period productions.

Porthpean Beach is about 2 km east along the coast path. Charlestown's own harbour is walkable, with the Shipwreck Treasure Museum holding over 8,000 artefacts from 165 shipwrecks. Beneath the museum, reopened china clay tunnels add another layer to the heritage story. The South West Coast Path runs along the cliffs on both sides of the harbour.

The Eden Project is a 10-minute drive inland (roughly 7 km). The Lost Gardens of Heligan are about 5 miles along the coast road. St Austell station, on the main London Paddington to Penzance line, is under 2 miles north.
