Carlyon Bay, a longer sandy beach popular for swimming, is 1.8km east - reachable by car in under five minutes. St Austell town centre, with its supermarkets and rail connections to the rest of Cornwall, is a mile north.
Best for: couples or solo travellers wanting a central base within walking distance of Charlestown's heritage harbour, local pubs, and two beaches. Less good for: guests with dogs (not accepted) or those needing family rooms with multiple beds.
