Cubert

Peaceful village between Crantock and Holywell

Cubert is a small village set back from the coast about 3 miles south of Newquay, positioned between two of north Cornwall’s best beaches. Crantock is roughly a mile to the northwest, across the Gannel estuary, while Holywell Bay lies about 2 miles to the north. The village centres on its 13th-century church, St Cubert’s, which has a distinctive spire visible from the surrounding lanes. The Smugglers’ Den Inn serves as the local pub and restaurant.

The parish covers a stretch of coast that includes the Penhale Sands dune system - one of the largest in Cornwall, extending for over a mile between Holywell and Perranporth. The dunes are a Site of Special Scientific Interest and home to rare plants and butterflies. Walking routes from Cubert lead through farmland to either coast, with the round trip to Holywell Bay and back taking about 90 minutes on foot.

Staying in Cubert puts you within easy reach of Newquay’s surf beaches and amenities without the noise and traffic of the town itself. The A3075 connects the village to Newquay in one direction and Perranporth in the other. Properties here tend toward converted farmhouses and rural cottages, with most offering parking - a genuine advantage during the summer months when coastal car parks fill early.
