Fourteen Providence

Fourteen Providence is a one-bedroom self-catering cottage at 14 Providence Place in Calstock, a village on the western bank of the River Tamar.

The cottage has a kitchen equipped with an oven, stovetop, coffee machine, toaster, and electric kettle, plus a refrigerator. A dining area and living room with sofa bed and TV make up the main living space. Toiletries and a hairdryer are provided.

Calstock itself is dominated by the striking 12-arch viaduct built in 1908, which carries the Tamar Valley Line across the river 37 metres above the water. The village sits within the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, right on the Cornwall-Devon border. A railway station provides services to Plymouth in about 30 minutes.

Cotehele, a medieval National Trust manor house with original furnishings, is roughly 3 miles up the valley. Morwellham Quay, the restored Victorian mining port, is about 6.8 miles away. The Tamar Valley itself has a long history of market gardening, fruit growing, and mining - quiet, green countryside that contrasts sharply with the busier coastal resorts.

Best for a couple wanting a compact riverside base without a car, using the railway station for trips to Plymouth.
