Gilliflower, Trethwale Barns

Gilliflower is a one-bedroom barn conversion in the small hamlet of Trethawle, down a country lane off the A38 near St Keyne. The cottage sleeps two in a super king bed, with parquet floors and exposed beams carried over from the original barn structure. Hosts Karl and Katie Jones manage the property directly, with check-in from 3pm.

A wood burner sits in the living room, and the kitchen has oak worktops, a dishwasher and a washing machine for longer stays. The barn is all on one level, and the en-suite has a walk-in shower as well as a bath. Outside there is a sun terrace and a courtyard with a charcoal barbecue. Dogs are welcome in the acre of landscaped garden that surrounds the barn, and the living room has a dining area with streaming services on the TV.

Liskeard is a two-mile drive, with two supermarkets open until 10pm most evenings. The coast at Plaidy Beach is around 5 miles south, with Looe, Polperro and Talland Bay's harbours further along that stretch. Bodmin Moor and the Eden Project both make a manageable day trip by car.

Best for couples wanting a quiet, dog-friendly base in South East Cornwall with their own transport. Less good for anyone without a car, since the hamlet has no reliable bus service and Liskeard is the nearest town with shops.
