The World Pilot Gig Championships return to the Isles of Scilly from Friday 30 April to Sunday 2 May 2027. Visit Isles of Scilly has published the dates for the three-day meeting, while the championship organiser’s website still concentrates on results and photographs from the completed 2026 event.
Crews race traditional Cornish pilot gigs in the waters around St Mary’s. The championships bring clubs from Cornwall, the wider South West and overseas to the islands, with race starts and shore activity centred on the archipelago’s largest island.
Visitor information
Dates: Friday 30 April to Sunday 2 May 2027.
Venue: Race waters around St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly. Exact courses, start sequences and spectator information will come from the 2027 race programme.
Admission: Spectator arrangements have not yet been stated for 2027. This page does not treat crew registration fees as visitor admission and does not quote an entry price.
Programme: The organiser currently publishes the 2026 scoreboard and category results. Those race times and crew lists are not evidence for the 2027 schedule, so they have not been copied forward.
Travel: This is one of the islands’ principal annual weekends. Visitors need transport to Scilly as well as accommodation, and both should be checked against the confirmed dates. Inter-island launches may be busy or adjusted around racing.
Race operations depend on conditions at sea. Use the organiser’s site for late course information and the official island travel operators for sailing or flight changes.
