One-bed mid-terrace cottage in Cardinham Woods, 4 miles east of Bodmin. Sleeps 2 in a king. Open-plan downstairs with wood burner; private wood-fired hot tub in the garden.

Compact layout: living-kitchen on the ground floor, bedroom and shower room on the first. Cornish welcome hamper, toiletries and a wood-burner starter pack on arrival. Wifi, washing machine, EV charger on site. Two dogs welcome and short breaks run year-round.

The mid-terrace setup means shared walls with neighbouring cottages, but the private outdoor space and hot tub are screened. Guests across the complex share access to the on-site woodland spa - a separate building with a larger hot tub and sauna, included in the rental.

The trail network is the draw. Forestry England's Lady Vale loop (1 mile, easy) follows the river past a 12th-century chapel ruin; Wheal Glynn climbs to an old lead mine. Mountain-bike trails (blue and red) run from the same car park 5 minutes away, where the Cardinham Woods Cafe serves cream teas and lunches. Lanhydrock House sits 2 miles south, the Eden Project 9 miles, and Brown Willy 6 miles north on Bodmin Moor.

Best for a couple wanting a quiet inland base with a hot tub and forest at the door. Less good for guests who'd rather be by the sea - the south coast is a 25-minute drive, and the cottage is end-of-track once you turn off the A38.
