Latchley Meadows Lodge

Latchley Meadows Lodge is a studio-style retreat for two in the Tamar Valley National Landscape, set in an elevated position within the grounds of the owner's home. The single open-plan space combines a double bed, loveseat, dining area, kitchenette and shower room inside a wood-panelled lodge with views across the valley.

French doors open onto a south-facing patio with a bistro table and chairs, firepit and BBQ - well positioned for evening use in summer. Off-road parking is included.

The surrounding area is one of Cornwall's least-visited and most rewarding. Greenscombe Woods - ancient oak woodland with bluebells in spring - is under half a mile on foot. The River Tamar forms the county border here and the valley path follows it through mature woodland. Gunnislake village with its shops and pub is 2.5 miles by road. The Tamar Trails Centre at Gulworthy, with signed cycling and walking routes, is 3.5 miles. Calstock, a riverside village with a Victorian railway viaduct and regular train service to Plymouth, is 4.5 miles.

For longer day trips, Dartmoor National Park is reachable within 45 minutes and Plymouth city centre within 30. Dogs welcome, up to three at once.

Best for couples or solo travellers wanting a walking and cycling base in a quiet corner of east Cornwall, away from the coastal crowds. Not great for those who need beach access quickly - the nearest beach is around 13.7 miles away. Downderry Beach on the south coast is the closest at 13.5 miles, with Whitsand Bay at 13.7 miles and Kingsand at 14.4 miles for those willing to make the drive.
