Downderry Beach - a south-facing mile-long stretch of sand and shingle with views across Whitsand Bay toward Rame Head - is about 1.7 miles. Dogs are welcome at Downderry year-round. Looe harbour is around 7 miles west, with fishing boats, independent shops, and the town's shark angling heritage. Polperro, a compact harbour village with steep lanes and no vehicles in the centre, is about 10 miles. The National Trust's Antony House is roughly 5 miles east.

Best for two people - couples in particular - who want a rural retreat with both hot tub and proper old-fashioned bath. Less ideal for anyone expecting a busy village or fast broadband.
