The Gables

The Gables is a one-bedroom house in Porthleven, Cornwall's most southerly harbour town and one of the county's most distinctive fishing ports. Porthleven Beach is 600 metres from the front door - a long arc of sand and shingle facing the open Atlantic, with serious winter surf that brings bodyboarders and photographers from across the county. The town's harbour wall restaurants are within a short walk, with seafood the obvious choice given the working fleet moored below. The property has parking and garden access, but dogs are not accepted. The South West Coast Path passes through Porthleven, connecting west towards the Lizard and east towards Praa Sands and Marazion. Praa Sands itself is 3.4 miles - a broad south-facing beach better sheltered from the prevailing Atlantic swell than Porthleven.

Good for couples seeking a small, well-positioned base within walking distance of food, drink, and coast path access. The town has enough independent character - bakeries, fishmongers, galleries, and an arts venue in the old lifeboat station - to occupy a week without needing a car every day. Less suited for groups larger than 2 or guests needing more outdoor space.
