The Gurnard's Head

The Gurnard's Head is a 17th-century coaching inn on the B3306 coast road between St Ives and St Just, positioned roughly halfway between the two near Zennor. The hotel has 7 en-suite bedrooms above the bar and dining room, each with handmade beds and views over the moors or toward the Atlantic.

The kitchen serves a daily-changing menu built around Cornish produce - fish from Newlyn, meat from local farms, vegetables from the pub's own garden. Dinner runs at around £50 per head for the set menu. Breakfast includes a full cooked option and homemade granola. Dogs are welcome throughout the pub and in all bedrooms, and parking is available on site.

A garden at the front overlooks open moorland. The South West Coast Path runs directly outside - the Gurnard's Head promontory is a 10-minute walk west, Zennor Head is 20 minutes east. Zennor village itself is a mile away, with St Senara's church, the Mermaid of Zennor carving, and the Wayside Museum. St Ives is about 6 miles east along the coast road for galleries, beaches, and a wider choice of restaurants.

The Gurnard's Head shares owners with The Old Coastguard in Mousehole, with the same approach to food, rooms, and genuinely remote coastal settings.

**Best for:** walkers doing the West Penwith coast path, couples after a food-led rural stay, dog owners wanting a base with direct trail access. **Less good for:** those needing a beach within walking distance (the nearest is 8 miles) or families travelling with young children.
