The Old Dairy

The Old Dairy is a converted former farm dairy shed at Penbroath Retreats near Carnhell Green, outside Hayle. The conversion retains exposed stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and corrugated tin detailing, sleeping 5 across 2 bedrooms. The king-size main bedroom has an en-suite wet room; a mezzanine den with a single bed and separate wet room suits children under 12 years old. The enclosed patio has a private hot tub, and the site includes shared access to a heated indoor pool and a dedicated dog-wash station.

Gwithian Towans is 3.5 miles away - a 3-mile stretch of sand dunes and beach at the northern end of St Ives Bay, with consistent surf conditions and a National Trust car park. Godrevy Beach, where the lighthouse sits on the headland, is 4.2 miles. Both are accessible by road in under 15 minutes. The Hayle Estuary RSPB reserve, less than 3 miles away, is a strong option for birdwatching, particularly in winter when waders and wildfowl gather.

St Ives is about 5 miles south-west - walkable from Carbis Bay along the coastal path, or a short drive. Penzance with its train station is around 8 miles. The Tate St Ives gallery and Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden in St Ives are well within reach for an afternoon out. Hayle itself has a growing independent food scene on its main street.

Right for families or groups of up to 5 wanting a rural retreat with on-site leisure facilities, dogs included. Good for those who want the pool and hot tub combination without the resort hotel price. Not great for guests wanting a sea view or direct beach access from the door - the 3.5 miles to Gwithian requires a car. The mezzanine bed suits younger children but may not work for taller teenagers.
