The Old Forge

The Old Forge is a single-storey three-bedroom cottage in Trerulefoot, a rural hamlet near Polbathic in south-east Cornwall, sleeping up to seven across two bathrooms. The converted building's single-level layout and enclosed garden suit groups travelling with a dog, and oil-fired central heating makes it a practical choice outside peak summer.

Inside, the open-plan kitchen-diner and sitting room runs the length of the ground floor, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms off it. Wifi, dishwasher, and washing machine are included, along with ample off-road parking for multiple cars. The enclosed garden is a strong point for dog owners - no road risk at the back.

Downderry Beach on the south Cornwall coast is about 3.6 miles away - a south-facing mile-long stretch of sand and shingle with views across Whitsand Bay and Rame Head, dog-friendly year-round. Looe, Cornwall's most visited fishing harbour, is roughly 9 miles west along the coast road. The village of Polbathic itself is a 10-minute walk, with the Halfway House pub on the main road through the village. Antony House, a National Trust property from the early 18th century, is around 5 miles east. The Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with good cycling and walking routes, starts effectively on the doorstep.

**Best for:** dog-owning families or groups who want a quiet rural base with easy single-storey access, a secure garden, and coast within a short drive. **Less good for:** anyone who wants to walk to the beach or needs good public transport - the hamlet is car-dependent and remote from town facilities.
