St Germans

St Germans is an east Cornwall village beside Port Eliot’s gardens and parkland. The estate lies west of the tidal River Tiddy, with the church of St Germanus beside the house. A station on the main railway line makes the village a practical place to consider for a visit without a car.

Port Eliot house and gardens

Port Eliot combines a Grade I listed house with a Grade I registered park and garden. House tours and garden visits are booked separately, with different access arrangements. The house contains paintings by Joshua Reynolds and Van Dyck, as well as Robert Lenkiewicz’s mural in the Round Room. Check the tour description before booking if stairs or uneven surfaces would affect your visit.

The gardens also host private events and festivals, so normal visitor opening does not guarantee access on every date. Check Port Eliot’s visitor information and event calendar before travelling. Festival tickets and house-tour tickets are different purchases.

Festivals at Port Eliot

Tunes in the Park, Wild Gardens and Hootenanny Fayre use the Port Eliot estate. Each has its own dates, tickets and arrival arrangements. Follow the event’s directions for parking or camping, rather than assuming the ordinary house entrance is the festival entrance.

For a festival visit, check the final train home or arrange a lift before booking. A village station is useful, but a late performance finish and the last service may not line up. Camping information belongs to the individual festival booking, including any arrival or departure days outside the music programme.

Getting to St Germans

St Germans station is on Nut Tree Hill. Port Eliot describes the main house as a five-minute walk through the village from the station. National Rail’s station guide has the platform and assistance details; step-free access is limited, so check the direction you need. By road, the estate’s directions use the B3249 from the A38 or A374.
