Wendron
Rural parish with the Poldark Mine heritage site
Wendron is a large rural parish inland from Helston, covering much of the western side of the Carnmenellis granite upland. The parish contains the Poldark Mine, a heritage tin mine open to visitors with underground tours of 18th-century workings.
The village itself is small, with a church, pub, and scattered farms. Helston, with its shops, annual Flora Day celebrations, and access to the Lizard Peninsula, is about 3 miles south. The Cornish Seal Sanctuary at Gweek is about 4 miles south-west. The parish’s inland position gives it a rural character distinct from the coastal villages, with rolling farmland and moorland walks.
