Where to stay for Falmouth Christmas Lights Switch-On 2026

25 November 2026 - 27 November 2026 in Falmouth. Live availability and prices.

Live prices

Falmouth lights up for Christmas on Thursday 26 November 2026, when the town centre lights are switched on at the annual community event on The Moor. Performances from local bands and school choirs lead into the countdown, then the town lights come on in a single moment across Market Street, Church Street, and Arwenack Street. The event is free to attend and marks the start of Falmouth’s festive season.

The Moor fills from around 5pm. The lights come on at about 6.30pm, followed by music and stalls running until around 8pm. Dressing warm is essential - the evening sits on the harbour edge and the wind off Falmouth Bay in late November rarely feels mild.

What else happens over Christmas in Falmouth

The Lights Switch-On is the first of several Falmouth festive events. The Community Christmas Tree Festival runs through December at the Princess Pavilion, with trees decorated by local schools, charities, and community groups. Falmouth’s Festive Weekend, typically held in the first half of December, adds an outdoor ice rink on The Moor, a curling lane, a giant snow globe, and a festive land train running visitors around the town centre. Santa’s Grotto opens for weekend sessions through December. Exact dates for the 2026 Festive Weekend are confirmed closer to the date by Falmouth Town Council.

Getting there and parking

Falmouth is on the A39, around 12 miles south of Truro and 15 miles from the A30. The event centres on The Moor, a few minutes’ walk from Falmouth Town station on the Maritime Line from Truro. The Dell, Quarry, and Church Street car parks all sit within 5 minutes of The Moor. Car parks fill from around 4.30pm on switch-on evening, so arriving earlier or taking the train into Falmouth Town is the easier option.

Where to stay

Falmouth has a wide range of accommodation within walking distance of the town centre. 1 Florence Place sleeps 6 and sits in the heart of the town. 16 Arwenack Street sleeps 8 in a larger property right on the event route. 20 Bishops Way is a quieter option sleeping 6 within a 10-minute walk of The Moor. Best Family Hotels in Cornwall

Best Family Hotels in Cornwall

Cornwall has more family-friendly hotel options than most people expect - it is not just cottages and caravan parks. From 4-star cliffside resorts with dedicated kids' clubs and surf schools to Victorian seafront hotels with heated pools and holiday parks with water flumes and beachside lodges, there is a range that spans every budget. The north coast from Bude to Mawgan Porth concentrates the biggest resort hotels, while St Ives and Falmouth offer more classic hotel stays with beaches on the doorstep. One practical note: peak summer weeks (late July and August) at the better-known hotels fill 6 or more months in advance - the Headland and Bedruthan in particular book solid by Christmas for the following summer.

Best Luxury Hotels in Cornwall

Best Luxury Hotels in Cornwall

Luxury in Cornwall comes in several distinct forms. There are the clifftop spa hotels - adults-only escapes with sea-view hot tubs and coastal treatments. There are the Victorian country house hotels set in landscaped grounds with pools, golf, and chauffeur services. And increasingly, there are the food-destination hotels that justify the room rate as much by what's on the plate as the thread count on the pillow. Cornwall now has 3 Michelin-starred restaurants: Paul Ainsworth at No.6 in Padstow, Outlaw's Fish Kitchen in Port Isaac, and Ugly Butterfly at the Headland Hotel in Newquay - the latter awarded in February 2026, making it Newquay's first Michelin star. That puts the county alongside some of the most food-credible hotel destinations in England. The hotels listed here represent the strongest options across the county: coast-facing spa resorts on the north coast, 5-star country houses on the Roseland, clifftop properties with direct beach access near St Ives, and a resort-scale property in Fowey. Prices vary significantly by season - the Nare Hotel, the Headland, and the Scarlet all charge substantially more in July and August than in November. Booking 3-6 months ahead for peak summer is standard at this tier.
