Choose St Ives Harbour as your base and you’ll have your choice of all the town’s holiday hot spots. The soft, sandy beach that’s revealed as the tide ebbs is sheltered from wind and currents by stone piers, the wharf that edges it is lined with shops, pubs, cafes and galleries, and characterful cobbled streets lead to the grassy Island headland. There really is something for everyone here – start with a walk to Smeaton’s Pier, still a place of work for the local fishermen, where ancient St Leonard’s Chapel has been a place of worship since medieval times. Today, much of the harbour’s trade involves fishing and you can find excursion boat trips too. If you’d prefer to explore the coastline by land then the historic mining town of St Just is 15 miles away and another 6 miles on, Land’s End is a must see too.

Having been in the same family ownership for more than half a century, it’s a much-loved family base. Just off the cobbled Wharf, step into a side street where three steps lead through an entrance area to your private hallway. A homely living/dining room awaits and is traditionally furnished, though all your attention will likely be on the large bay window which offers glorious views of boats bobbing in the harbour. A hatch opens onto the adjacent kitchen where you’ll find all the essentials for your self-catering stay. Two restful bedrooms beckon at the end of your day; one has a double bed and the other has twins, and they share use of a family bathroom and separate cloakroom.

The beach is just beyond your living room window so you can check whether the tide’s in or out before you set foot outside; this bay window is south-facing so you’ll be able to enjoy lots of natural light as you unwind.
