The 20-acre Bonython Estate gardens - one of Cornwall's Great Gardens - are open to guests, with a walled potager, hidden valley and three small lakes. Poldhu Cove is 3.4km, where the Marconi Wireless Station memorial marks the spot the first transatlantic radio signal was sent in 1901. Kynance Cove and the Lizard Lighthouse are an easy drive south, and Helston's market town and Flora Day festival sit three miles north.

Best for a multi-generational family group or two families with dogs wanting space, garden access and rural privacy. Less good for groups needing modern open-plan living or multiple bathrooms - it's a traditional farmhouse, and a car is essential.
