The Wheal Coates engine house on the cliff above Chapel Porth is 1.5 miles south - one of the most-photographed buildings on the Cornish coast. St Agnes Beacon, managed by the National Trust, gives 360-degree views from the top and is a 20-minute walk from the village.

Best for groups of six who want coast path access, surf nearby, and a proper base with individual bathrooms. Less good for guests who rely on wifi or want a hot tub - neither is listed.
