Fowey town itself is on foot: the Fowey-to-Polruan passenger ferry (crossing takes under 5 minutes), Sam's restaurant on Fore Street, and the start of the Hall Walk circular are all within easy reach. The Du Maurier Literary Festival runs annually in May.

Best for: couples or families of 4 wanting a base in a working harbour town with coastal walking and a wood burner for evenings. Less good for: visitors who want a beach directly outside the door, or groups larger than 4.
