PigLet

PigLet is a one-bedroom cottage converted from a piggery in the parish of Gwennap, set in mid-Cornwall's former tin and copper mining landscape. It sleeps 2, with a sofa bed available as occasional extra sleeping space, and starts from GBP582 per week.

Inside, a bright open-plan room brings together the kitchen, dining, and living areas. Patio doors open from both the living room and the double bedroom onto decking at the rear - the main draw of the property. The layout is compact, geared to relaxed stays rather than formal entertaining. Parking is on site.

The decking catches the evening sun and looks across open fields. Wildlife is part of the experience: the local fox is a regular visitor at dusk. Gwennap Pit - where John Wesley preached to mining communities 18 times between 1762 and 1789 - is within easy reach, as is Carn Marth at 235 metres, one of the highest points in the area. The traffic-free mineral tramway trails connect to Carn Brea and on to Redruth and Portreath. Portreath Beach is the closest sand at 7.4km. Trevaunance Cove and Trevellas Cove follow at around 10km. Truro, Falmouth, and Perranporth are all within a short drive.

Best for couples wanting a rural mid-Cornwall base with easy access to the mining heritage trails and both north and south coasts. Less good for beach-first holidays - the coast requires a drive.
