Rosebank Cottage

Single-storey three-bedroom cottage sleeping six in Polruan, the harbour village on the east bank of the Fowey estuary. The open-plan lounge faces the River Fowey. One king, one double and one twin. All accommodation on one level - no internal stairs.

A large boot room at the entrance handles muddy walking kit and fishing rods. The living space has a wood burner and opens onto an enclosed terrace with a brick-built BBQ and outdoor dining area. Dishwasher and washing machine are in. Two dogs welcome. Honest caveat: no on-site parking - guests use the village car parks up the hill.

The foot ferry to Fowey town quay runs every few minutes in daylight hours, a five-minute crossing to restaurants, shops and the Daphne du Maurier Literary Centre. Readymoney Cove is 0.7km across the water; Lantic Bay sits 1.9km east along the coast path. The Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are both under an hour's drive from the hilltop car park above the village.

Best for: a family or two couples wanting a single-level layout, a river view and no stairs. Less good for: anyone who needs a car close to the door - the lane won't take one, and the nearest parking is a walk up the hill.
