The Bull Pen

The Bull Pen is a detached one-bedroom cottage for two near Grampound, a village on the River Fal roughly midway between Truro and St Austell on the A390. One bathroom serves the cottage, and underfloor heating and a wood burner cover the indoor warmth.

A private hot tub sits in the south-facing enclosed garden. Wi-Fi, a dishwasher and parking are included, and up to three dogs are accepted, making this one of the more flexible dog-friendly options on the Fal. There is no washing machine, so longer stays mean finding a launderette. Changeover day is Friday.

Grampound's name comes from the Norman French for "great bridge", reflecting its history as the main river crossing, and the village still has a community shop, pub and heritage centre. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are about 6 miles south-east and Mevagissey's harbour sits on the coast below, while Truro is roughly 8 miles west.

Pentewan Beach is 5.5 miles away, a near mile-long stretch of sand with summer lifeguards, kayaking and paddleboarding. Porthpean Beach follows at 5.7 miles and Porthluney Bay at 6.1 miles, all a drive rather than a walk from the cottage.
