Wild Rose Cottage Illogan

Wild Rose Cottage is a renovated former miner's cottage in Illogan, sleeping 4 across three bedrooms with a single bathroom. The ground floor has a wood burner in the sitting room and a utility area leading out to the enclosed terrace garden, where a charcoal BBQ is set up for alfresco cooking. An EV charging point is on site - a practical feature for electric vehicle owners that remains uncommon in rural mid-Cornwall. Up to 3 dogs are welcome, and the village pub is about 500 metres along the lane.

Portreath Beach is 3km away - a north-facing sandy beach in a harbour village, historically used as a coal import port. The beach works well for surfing and rock-pooling, and the car park at the top of the beach allows easy day visits. The South West Coast Path runs along the clifftops above the village, and the Portreath Tramroad (now a walking and cycling trail) heads inland from the harbour.

The Coast-to-Coast cycle trail begins at Portreath and runs 17 miles to Devoran on the south coast, a popular day ride through former mining country using surfaced paths through Redruth and Twelveheads. The cottage's central position in mid-Cornwall makes it a practical base for covering the county: Truro is 10 miles, St Ives is 16 miles, and Newquay is 18 miles.

Suits up to 4 guests - couples or a family with younger children - who want a countryside cottage within easy reach of both coasts. Good for those with an electric vehicle or planning cycle trips on the Portreath trail. Not great for larger groups: the cottage sleeps 4, not 6, despite 3 bedrooms.
