Penlee Point 3-bed apartment with sea views from every room, sleeps 6

Historic three-bedroom apartment at Penlee Point on the tip of the Rame Peninsula, originally built for the families of staff who operated the Eddystone Lighthouse 17 miles offshore. Sleeps six. Sea views from nearly every room. Wood burner and open fire. Dogs welcome.

Upper floor holds the open-plan living space. Three bedrooms each with their own bathroom - unusual for a 3-bed property, good for three couples or a multi-generational stay. Dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi.

The Rame Peninsula is Cornwall's quietest corner. Locals call it "the forgotten corner." The South West Coast Path passes the front door - the 5-mile circuit round the peninsula takes in Penlee Point, Cawsand and Kingsand, and Rame Head with its medieval chapel on the cliff.

Kingsand and Cawsand (4.7km) are twin colour-washed fishing villages sharing a single harbour - the old county boundary between Devon and Cornwall ran between them. Both have beach access, the Halfway House pub straddling the line, and passenger-only ferries to Plymouth across the Sound from Easter to October.

Whitsand Bay (7.4km) is the dramatic one - 3 miles of sand below steep cliffs, accessed by steep steps down from car parks above. Mount Edgcumbe Country Park sits on the inland side of the peninsula with formal gardens, woodland paths, and a Tudor-era house.

The peninsula connects to the rest of Cornwall via the A374 to Torpoint, then the Torpoint Ferry or the Tamar Bridge into Plymouth. Plymouth is 5 miles but feels further - the ferry keeps it that way.

Best for: walkers (the coast path is the main event), three couples sharing, anyone who wants remote, quiet Cornwall off the tourist route. Less good for: families wanting a beach-holiday base (nearest sand is a 10-minute drive), or anyone relying on taxis in the evening.
