5 Carlyon Road

A single-storey two-bedroom cottage in Carnon Downs, near Playing Place, sleeping 4. Everything is on the ground floor, with a double bedroom and a twin. Changeover is Saturday, and parking is included. A shop is less than a mile away.

Inside, the open fire is the centrepiece of the sitting room. Two bedrooms, one bathroom, with a dishwasher and washing machine included. The large enclosed garden has secure bike storage and a lawned area for dogs to roam.

Carnon Downs sits between Truro and the Roseland. Trelissick Garden (National Trust) is a short drive, with ferry crossings from the quay to Falmouth running in season. Castle Beach is 6 miles, and Gyllyngvase Beach is 6.3 miles. A third Falmouth beach, Swanpool, is 6.5 miles away, so one day on the Falmouth seafront covers all three. Truro city centre, with its three-spired cathedral and covered market, is under 5 miles north.

Best for dog owners who want a garden with space to spare, with off-road parking for four cars and a lockable garage for bikes or surfboards. Guests who need step-free access should check with the owner before booking. Less suited to those wanting to walk to the coast - the nearest beaches require a car.
