Lostwithiel, with its Norman Restormel Castle and antique shops, is roughly 2 miles north. Fowey town and Readymoney Cove - a sheltered sandy cove beneath a Henry VIII-era castle - are about 7 miles south. The river is tidal as far as Lostwithiel, making it navigable by kayak or small boat at high water.
