Emelle

Emelle is a three-bedroom cottage in Cawsand and Kingsand on the Rame Peninsula, converted from a former pilchard palace and village school. It sleeps seven across a zip-and-link twin, a king bedroom, and a triple room with a double and single. The cottage sits directly on the waterfront, overlooking Plymouth Sound, with Girt Beach accessible via a path cut into the rocks below.

All three bathrooms are included, along with an open fire, dishwasher, and washing machine. Ground-floor access is accessible-friendly. The layout - three separate sleeping spaces across the building - suits families or groups wanting their own room without sharing a floor. WiFi runs throughout.

The village bakery and tea room are 30 yards from the front door. The local pub is 50 yards. Two further small beaches at Cawsand and Kingsand are within 200 metres, and the three-mile sands of Whitsand Bay lie about five miles west. Prices start from GBP1,238 per week, rising to GBP2,109 at peak.

The South West Coast Path runs through both villages, heading south to Penlee Point and north toward the Plymouth ferry crossings. Cawsand and Kingsand together support a cluster of independent galleries, cafes, and seafood places along the water's edge - no chain shops, no main road traffic.

Best for: families and groups of seven wanting direct waterfront access in a car-free village setting, with dogs. Less good for: guests who need easy supermarket access - the nearest large shops are in Torpoint, about four miles north.
