Five Degrees West is a single-storey stone cottage near St Just in Penwith, sleeping two adults in one double bedroom. Built in the traditional west Cornish style, the property is all on one floor. One well-behaved dog is welcome, with towels, bowls and a blanket provided.

Charging an electric car at the cottage is not permitted. No children.

The listing puts a beach about a 10-minute walk away. Priests Cove, below Cape Cornwall, is the closest named cove - a working launch site rather than a sandy family bay, but one of the most atmospheric spots on the peninsula. Gwynver Beach is 3 miles south and Sennen Cove 4.2 miles, both facing the Atlantic with proper surf.

Best for two adults or a solo traveller with a dog who want a quiet, no-frills base close to west Cornwall's coastal walking. Less good for anyone with children or anyone who needs to charge an electric car. Guests who need step-free access should check with the owner before booking.
