Harbour Sands St Ives

Harbour Sands is a first-floor apartment above a fish and chip restaurant on the St Ives waterfront, with sandy beaches within a few minutes' walk and plenty of eateries, boutiques and bars close by. St Ives has the Tate Gallery and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and sculpture garden. The Minack Theatre (18 miles), an open-air amphitheatre with a full programme of spring and summer plays, plus Porthcurno, Land's End and St Michael's Mount in Marazion are all under 20 miles away, and the fishing harbour of Newlyn (10 miles) is a short drive.

A communal entrance and a flight of stairs lead up into this light, stylish apartment with views across the harbour, best enjoyed from the cushioned window seat, where guests can watch the RNLI crew launch the St Ives lifeboat directly outside on training manoeuvres. The sitting area has a sofa and Smart TV, and the dining table seats the whole party for meals. The kitchen is equipped for both a picnic day out and a full family dinner. Two bedrooms sit to the rear: a king-size room and a family room with a double and a single bed, sleeping 5 in total. A contemporary family shower room completes the layout.

Best for couples or small groups keen to be right on the St Ives waterfront without a car, thanks to the harbour views and the short walk to Porthmeor and Porthminster beaches. Less good for guests bringing a dog, since dogs aren't accepted here, or anyone needing step-free access, as the apartment is reached via a flight of stairs from a communal entrance.
