Hideaway

Hideaway is a one-bedroom cottage for two, set back off the main streets of Fowey (pronounced "Foy") on Cornwall's south coast. The location is the draw - close enough to walk to the harbour in 5 minutes, quiet enough that you don't hear the cargo lorries that load china clay at the docks each morning.

The cottage runs to an open-plan kitchen and living area downstairs, a single bedroom and one bathroom. Wifi, dishwasher and washing machine are all in. A small private terrace gives you a view across the rooftops to the water - useful for morning coffee. There is no on-site parking, which is normal for central Fowey; nearest public car parks are Caffa Mill (10 minutes' walk) or Hanson Drive (5 minutes).

Readymoney Cove, Fowey's small sandy beach below St Catherine's Castle, is 700 metres along the coast path. The Polruan passenger ferry from Town Quay runs every 10 to 15 minutes for walks on the quieter east bank. The Eden Project is 8 miles north, the Lost Gardens of Heligan 14 miles. Sam's on Fore Street, Appleton's, and Pinky Murphy's pasties are all within a 5-minute walk.

Best for couples wanting a central base in Fowey without driving anywhere. Less good for anyone who needs to park outside the door, or wants a sea-view balcony - this is a tucked-away terrace, not a waterfront perch.
